Seefeld, alias Marc Weber (born 1982), grew up close to Cologne: in Leichlingen, a small town near the river Wupper. His early fascination for indie-bands has started a still ongoing quest for music that moves and fascinates him in equal measure. So far, it has led to a wide-ranging interest for many kinds of music – especially experimental electronic music, modern classic and ambient.
At the beginning of 2007, a new phase of that journey began when a friend showed him how to use Ableton Live – thus opening up the possibility for him to actually produce music. If one had to put a label on it, the result could be called post-ambient. However, Seefeld always wants to surprise himself. Therefore, all songs are characterised by different influences and musical experiments and can touch the listener in a completely new way.
In the summer of 2013, Seefeld released his debut-EP ‘Previous’ on Pinmusik. The album is a quiet reflection on the years it was written in, already hinted at by its title. It is both, an end point, summarizing the past, and an opportunity for a fresh start, opening up new, possible directions.
The tracks, as well as their titles, all refer back to early influences and past events in Seefeld’s life. Even Seefeld’s name is a reference to the past: it’s his grandmother’s family name. Taken together, one could say that a kind of private mythology subtly informs the whole album,
opening up multiple ways for interpretation. This does, however, never take center stage – a role which is reserved exclusively for the deep, droning and, yes, delirious music.
